ABB Select I/O Digital Output Characteristics

The DOS810 uses single-loop granularity, with one Signal Conditioning Module assigned to one I/O channel. The output sources 24 VDC field power and limits the current electronically to 0.6 A. A built-in free-wheeling diode provides inductive load suppression.

Galvanic isolation separates the field loop from the system side. The module also provides protection against incorrect wiring and monitors open-circuit and short-circuit conditions. Internal hardware, communication, power, and power-injection supervision provide diagnostic status to the Select I/O system.

The mechanical locking slider disables field-device power and/or the output before module removal. A field disconnect function can galvanically separate the field loop from the SCM during commissioning and maintenance. Mechanical keying prevents installation of an incompatible module type.

The DOS810 supports hazardous-area installation but is not an intrinsic-safety barrier. The supplied certification data includes ATEX, IECEx, cULus hazardous-location, and CCC classifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the DOS810 support hot swap?

A: Yes. The DOS810 supports hot swap. The mechanical locking slider can turn off field-device power and/or the output before removal.

Q: What output current can the DOS810 source?

A: The digital output provides 24 VDC current sourcing with electronic current limitation to 0.6 A.

Q: Does the DOS810 provide galvanic isolation?

A: Yes. The field circuit is galvanically isolated from the system. Factory routine testing is specified at 3060 VDC.

Field Installation Guidelines

Install the DOS810 in the designated Select I/O mechanical assembly and use the corresponding mechanical keying arrangement to prevent incorrect module insertion.

Verify the field-device wiring against the configured digital-output channel before energization. The module accepts 2-wire field devices and provides current-limited field power through the power injection arrangement.

During commissioning or maintenance, use the field disconnect function or mechanical locking slider to isolate the field loop before removing the SCM. Keep field wiring separated from high-energy switching conductors where practical, and terminate cable shields according to the system grounding design.

For hazardous-area installations, select the applicable certified installation method and observe the restrictions associated with the installed ATEX, IECEx, cULus, or CCC certification. The DOS810 itself is not an IS barrier.
