Select I/O ModuleBus Communication and Diagnostics
GIS810 performs the communication layer between the FCI and the SCMs. The upstream interface uses Modulebus, while the downstream side communicates with up to 16 SCMs. Process I/O data is distributed between the connected SCMs and the FCI.
A mechanical locking slider disconnects the power supplies before module removal. Mechanical keying prevents insertion of an incorrect module type. LED indicators provide Status (S) and Primary (P) indications.
Diagnostics include internal hardware supervision, communication supervision, and internal power supervision. The module can operate in either single or redundant configuration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the GIS810 support hot swap?
A: Yes. The module supports hot swap. The mechanical locking slider is designed to turn off the power supplies before removal.
Q: How many Signal Conditioning Modules can one GIS810 communicate with?
A: The GIS810 communicates downstream with up to 16 Signal Conditioning Modules.
Q: Can the GIS810 be used in hazardous areas?
A: Yes. The supplied specifications include ATEX, IECEx availability, cULus, and CCC hazardous-area classifications. The applicable certification and installation conditions must be verified for the specific installation.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the GIS810 in the designated Select I/O mechanical position and ensure that the module is correctly keyed before insertion. Verify that the mechanical locking mechanism is engaged according to the installation procedure.
Route communication and field wiring separately from high-voltage or high-current conductors where practical. Maintain appropriate shielding and grounding practices for the connected I/O system and avoid creating unintended ground loops.
For hazardous-area installations, use only the approved installation arrangement and associated equipment required by the applicable ATEX, IECEx, cULus, or other certification. Verify enclosure, wiring, segregation, and environmental requirements before energization.
The module has an IP20 protection rating; therefore, the surrounding cabinet or enclosure must provide the environmental protection required by the installation. Confirm operating temperature, humidity, altitude, pollution degree, and corrosive-atmosphere conditions against the stated limits.
For replacement or hot-swap operations, follow the system maintenance procedure and use the mechanical locking slider to remove power from the module before extraction.
