Relion 615 Feeder Protection and Signal Processing
The REF615C_D supports both conventional instrument transformer connections and non-conventional sensor inputs. The configuration can process Rogowski coil current signals and resistive-divider voltage signals. Protection functions include three-stage non-directional overcurrent protection, directional overcurrent protection, non-directional and directional earth-fault protection, thermal overload protection, negative phase-sequence protection, undervoltage, overvoltage, residual overvoltage, and frequency or ROCOF protection.
The relay also provides circuit breaker failure protection, integrated fault location, disturbance recording, breaker condition monitoring, and voltage quality measurement. Programmable graphical logic through ABB PCM600 permits control and interlocking functions for up to three primary switching devices.
Communication interfaces support IEC 61850 Edition 1 and Edition 2 with GOOSE and MMS messaging. Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3 TCP/Serial, and IEC 60870-5-103 are also supported. Rear Ethernet interfaces can be configured with PRP or HSR hardware redundancy where specified.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can REF615C_D accept Rogowski coil current measurements?
A: Yes. Configuration D supports Rogowski coils for current measurement and resistive dividers for voltage measurement.
Q: What conventional CT input ratings are supported?
A: The specified nominal current input ratings are 1 A and 5 A.
Q: What Ethernet protocols are supported?
A: The relay supports IEC 61850 Edition 1 and Edition 2, including GOOSE and MMS, as well as Modbus TCP, DNP3 TCP, and other specified communication protocols. PRP and HSR hardware redundancy are available through the rear Ethernet interfaces.
Field Installation Guidelines
Install the relay in a compatible flush, semi-flush, wall-mount, or 19-inch rack arrangement according to the applicable ABB mechanical installation documentation.
Verify the auxiliary supply configuration before energization. Confirm that CT, VT, Rogowski coil, or resistive-divider wiring matches the configured measurement interface and rated input values.
Keep measurement wiring separated from high-current power conductors where practical. Apply appropriate cable shielding and grounding practices for the installation environment, with shield termination following the project grounding design and ABB installation requirements.
Verify polarity, phase sequence, current and voltage channel assignment, and binary input/output wiring before commissioning protection functions. Check circuit breaker and disconnector control circuits independently before enabling programmable switching logic.
For Ethernet communication, verify RJ45 or optical LC connections, network addressing, protocol configuration, and PRP/HSR topology where redundant Ethernet is installed. Confirm IEC 61850 GOOSE subscriptions and logical-node configuration before placing the relay into operational service.
