Infrared Flame Signal Detection
The UR600 IR uses a PbS infrared sensor to detect radiation in the 0.6 to 3 um range. Its output is a raw flame signal containing amplitude and flicker-frequency information. The Uvisor MFD control unit processes this signal for flame discrimination against background radiation and adjacent burner flames.
The detector is specified for individual burner flame monitoring with atomized oil and pulverized coal combustion. The optical sensing path is supported by lens-cleaning airflow to limit contamination of the viewing surface.
Lens Cleaning and Pneumatic Interface
Clean ambient air is used for lens cleaning. Direct-view installation requires an airflow of 115 l/min, while an extended-probe arrangement requires 400 l/min.
The specified minimum cleaning-air pressure is referenced to the maximum wind box pressure. For direct view, the pressure must be 20 mm H2O above the maximum wind box pressure. For an extended probe, the required differential is 300 mm H2O.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What signal does the UR600 IR provide to the Uvisor MFD?
A: It provides a raw infrared flame signal representing detected radiation amplitude and flicker frequency.
Q: What electrical cable is specified for the detector?
A: The specified connection is 4 x 0.55 sq.mm (20 AWG) shielded cable, with a recommended maximum cable length of 300 m.
Q: What is the detector operating temperature range?
A: The specified operating range is -10 to 80 deg C. The storage range is -40 to 100 deg C.
Field Installation Guidelines
- Mount the detector using its 1 in NPT male mounting connection and maintain a clear optical path toward the monitored primary combustion zone.
- Provide the specified clean-air supply for lens cleaning. Select the direct-view or extended-probe airflow according to the installed optical configuration.
- Verify that cleaning-air pressure exceeds the maximum wind box pressure by the specified differential before commissioning.
- Use the specified 4 x 0.55 sq.mm (20 AWG) shielded cable and keep the cable route separated from high-energy power conductors where practical.
- Terminate and ground the cable shield according to the Uvisor control system and site electrical installation requirements.
- Use the 1/2 in NPT female cable entry with a compatible cable gland or conduit arrangement suitable for the enclosure and hazardous-area classification.
- Confirm the installation maintains the required EEx-d IIC T6 and ATEX equipment conditions where the detector is installed in a hazardous area.
- Verify the detector supply is provided by the compatible Uvisor series control unit before applying power.
- Check the optical lens and cleaning-air path during commissioning to ensure that contamination or inadequate airflow does not obstruct infrared detection.
