LONWORKS and Communication Architecture
The XCL5010 provides an open LONWORKS interface using an FTT-10A free-topology transceiver and LonTalk protocol at 78 Kbaud. The controller supports up to 512 LONWORKS network variables for data exchange with distributed devices.
The C-bus interface operates from 9.6 to 76.8 Kbaud. An RS-232 interface is provided for connection to an MMI, modem, or ISDN adapter. The controller does not include an internal display; local configuration and monitoring therefore require an external operator interface or PC-based service software.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Does the XCL5010 have an integrated display?
A: No. The XCL5010 has no internal MMI display. An external operator interface or PC-based service software is required for local configuration and monitoring.
Q: What is the maximum physical I/O capacity?
A: The controller supports up to 16 distributed I/O modules and up to 128 physical data points. It also supports up to 256 pseudo data points.
Q: How is RAM data retained during a power failure?
A: A gold capacitor provides RAM backup for approximately 72 hours during a power interruption.
Field Installation Guidelines
- Install the controller on the specified DIN rail inside a suitable control cabinet or panel.
- Supply the controller from a 24 Vac source within the specified voltage tolerance.
- Route LONWORKS, C-bus, and RS-232 communication wiring separately from high-voltage and high-current conductors where practical.
- Maintain appropriate cable shielding and grounding practices for the installed communication network.
- Verify LONWORKS network topology and termination requirements before commissioning.
- Confirm all distributed I/O connections before applying power.
- Provide adequate ventilation around the controller and avoid installation locations exceeding the specified ambient temperature or humidity range.
- Use the external operator interface or service software for configuration because the XCL5010 has no integrated display.
