Ethernet Backplane and RIO Network Characteristics
The BMECRA31210 provides three RJ45 interfaces, including two Ethernet RIO network ports and one service or distributed equipment port. The remote backplane supports Bus X and Ethernet communication for connected Modicon X80 modules.
EtherNet/IP provides device communication, while RSTP supports ring topology operation. QoS, CIP Explicit Messaging, and diagnostic services support communication and module-level supervision.
The adaptor supports 10/100BASE-TX transmission with autonegotiation and auto MDIX. Port communication can be enabled or disabled for network configuration and cybersecurity control.
The module supports remote I/O data collection and output data updates through the remote I/O head adaptor. Port mirroring, Device DDT diagnostics, system time stamping, and configuration changes on the fly are also provided.
The specified 10 ms time-stamping function records event timing for supported remote I/O operations. Compatibility includes discrete, analog, counter, HART, weighing, motion, frequency, serial, fiber converter, and other X80 modules.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What Ethernet interfaces are provided by the BMECRA31210?
A: The module provides three RJ45 ports, with two Ethernet RIO network ports and one service or distributed equipment port.
Q: What power requirement is specified for this adaptor?
A: The specified input voltage is 3.3 VDC, with a current consumption of 1800 mA.

Field Installation Guidelines
Install the BMECRA31210 in the designated Modicon X80 rack position and secure the module using the specified screw fixing arrangement.
Verify the rack backplane is correctly seated before energizing the system. Confirm that the module receives its specified backplane supply through the X80 architecture.
Connect Ethernet RIO cables only to the designated RIO ports. Connect service or distributed-equipment traffic through the appropriate service port.
Use shielded Ethernet cabling where required by the installation environment. Maintain physical separation between Ethernet communication wiring and high-current power conductors to reduce electromagnetic coupling.
Terminate cable shields according to the site grounding architecture and applicable Schneider Electric installation documentation. Avoid creating unintended shield-current paths between separately grounded equipment.
Check the RUN, ERR, Mod Status, Net Status, and STS indicators after startup. Confirm Ethernet link status and RIO network operation before commissioning connected I/O modules.
Do not exceed the specified operating temperature, humidity, altitude, or IP20 environmental limitations. IP20 protection does not provide protection against water ingress or conductive contamination.
